Abstract

Heating by electricity.-A holder for welding electrodes comprises an insulated handle 1 of ebonite, vulcanized fibre, or similar material which is provided at one end with a slot 2 to receive an electrode of carbon, metal, or the like. A piston 4 with roughened front face 5 slides in a metal tube 3 in the handle and is forced bv a spring 7 against the electrode in the slot. The piston is mounted on a rod 6 which carries a releasing knob 14 projecting through a slot in the handle and which is screwed at its rear end to receive a chuck 11 for gripping the end of an electric conductor. A hand shield 15 may be adjustably secured by a clamping-ring 16 on the handle 1.
