Abstract

168,949. Bevan, D. May 10, 1920. Jib cranes.-A portable crane comprises a balanced jib, adjustable in length and in inclination to the horizontal, and pivotally mounted on a vertical standard carried by, and rotatable on, a wheeled platform, a brake for braking the lifting- hawser, and sprags for securing the crane when lifting. As shown, a box 21 on the jib may be filled with sand &c. for balancing the load. The jib comprises a part 1 adjustable in a part 2 by means of a rack 4 and pinion 3. The part 2 is pivoted on a vertical standard 9, and is maintained at any desired angle by means of links 14. The vertical standard is rotatable on a bearing 10, and in a collar 12 carried by stays 11. The lifting-hawser 19 may be braked by a device 20 in which a block may be screwed down on the hawser by a hand-wheel. Sprags 23 having forks or spikes 25 are pivoted to platform 13 and are operated by handles 24.
