Abstract

381,860. Cranes. RIDLEY, W., 18, Cromwell Road, Beeston, Nottinghamshire, and STANTON IRONWORKS CO., Ltd., Stantonby-Dale, near Nottingham. April 9, 1932, No. 10237. [Class 78 (iv).] A wall-crane or pillarcrane, particularly for use in foundries, comprising a slueing jib g, with a slueing extension jib k, is provided with antifriction pivots for the jib parts and is slued by hand. As shown, the main jib comprises tubular members g, d, the member d being supported on a ball-thrust bearing at the top of a column a<1> and in ball or roller bearings at the base. The extension jib k is built up of angleirons &c. and is secured to a spindle h which turns freely in antifriction bearings in the main jib. Slueing may be readily effected by hand by an operator near the load. The hoisting gear comprises an air cylinder o, mounted on a rearward extension of the jib k for balancing, acting directly or through gearing. The spindle h may be hollow and open to the cylinder o, and may be connected with a flexible air supply pipe controlled by a valve at x. Alternatively, hydraulic or electric power may be used or lifting-tackle may be hung from the jib extension.
