Abstract

888,452. Ships stabilizers. SUBERKRUB, F. April 19, 1960, No. 13616/60. Class 113. A ship's stabilizer comprises a fin 1 which is rotatably mounted on a shaft 2 carried by a body 3. The body 3 is located on tracks 4 and 5 so as to be displaceable athwart ships for movement of the fin 1 into and out of its operating position. The driving arrangement for this movement comprises a motor 23 which drives a shaft 25 through mechanical gearing &c., the whole arrangement being located outside the fin-box 14. The shaft 25 passes to the inside of the box 14 to a chain wheel 20 which co-operates with a chain wheel 21, which is journalled to the base of the box 14, and a chain 22, which is secured to the body 3. The rotational movement of the fin 1 is provided by an arrangement also located outside of the fin-box 14, comprising an hydraulic piston and cylinder 6 which rotates a crank 8. The crank 8 rotates the shaft 9, cranks 15 and shaft 17 to move the link 18, which is slideable on the shaft 17 and connected to the fin 1 by a pin 19, to rotate the fin 1. The to-and-fro movement of the body 3 may be effected by a screwed spindle and the rotational movement of the fin 1 by a telescopic shaft.
