Abstract

168,522. Papiez, J. Aug. 26, 1920. Helicopters; propelling; balancing and regulating altitude.-In a helicopter machine in which a lifting-propeller 18 and a driving-propeller 11 are carried from a circular frame 1 and driven by a motor in the gear-box 15, a brake block 19 is pulled by springs 21 into a wedge-shaped groove in the shaft 16 of the propeller 18 and can be lifted, to regulate the speed of the propeller 18, by pulling on a wire 23, connected to the brake lever 22. The wire is operated by a handle 25 and worm gearing. Steering-propellers 8, 9 are driven from the shaft 12 of the propeller 11 by belts 30, 31, and are carried by slides 28, 29 which are drawn outwardly by springs 32, 33 to keep the belts taut. The belts can be slackened by drawing the slides inwardly by wires 34, 35 connected to hand-operated gears 38, 39. Shock-absarbers, applications of. - The feet 5 of the machine, which may be interconnected, slide in air cylinders 6 having small air escape openings 7.
