Abstract

25,825. Bernard, R. L. Nov. 10, 1911, [Convention date]. Aerial machines without aerostats; planes, construction of ; stopping way; steering; propelling.- An aeroplane is provided with a series of lifting- propellers 11 fitted inside conical casings 12 on the planes 1. Curtains 17 strengthened by buttons 18 may be drawn across the tops of the casings in case the motor stops. The motor 8 is connected to the propellers 11 through a clutch, by belt or chain gearing and by another clutch to the driving-propeller 7 so that either or both sets of propellers may be driven. The curtains 17 which are drawn across the casings 12 to check the descent are operated by cords 21 connected to a drum which is operated through toothed gearing from a hand-lever which can be locked in position.
