Mounting electric lamps in lanterns.-To enable the light from electric hand lanterns to be focused on near or distant objects, the bulb C is mounted in a block g adapted to slide in a tube F on which the lens D is secured, and for moving the block g and the bulb a finger-operated lever H is pivoted to the casing at h<1> and connected to the block by a pin g'. In the construction shown in Fig. 8, a metal tongue g<7> secured in the block g is in electric connection with one terminal of the bulb and bears on the lens tube to complete the circuit; in one of the extreme positions of the block a stop raises the tongue g<7> and breaks the circuit, so that the lever H may be used in place of the usual switch.
