Abstract

116,179. White, S. D., and Burge, H. July 3, 1917. Lamp signals. - A portable signal lantern, particularly for use in railway shunting, is provided with several differently - coloured lamps B mounted on a movable plate D and connected to switch contacts arranged so that only the particular lamp which is in position for projecting light is in circuit. As shown, the plate D and a conducting slab P, are attached to a lever J<1> provided with an external handle J. The lamp sockets are all connected through the lever, a strip, and a contact spring to one battery terminal. A spring M engaging the other battery terminal is attached to a strip L<1> bearing a stud L in the path of three studs Q, connected to spring O<1> carried by the lever and abutting against the centre contacts of the three lamps. A projection U on the lever J co-operates with studs V on the case to retain the lever in the three positions with the lamps out of circuit. Instead of this arrangement the lever may carry a spring-urged ball or plunger taking into holes in a plate. Alternatively, the lever may actuate the lamp carrier by a pin and slot, or may be replaced by a push-piece.
