Abstract

166,537. Wesnigk, E. April 20, 1918. [Convention date]. Screw propellers.-Relates to means for securing adjustable propeller blades to the nave or boss. The nave 1 is formed of two parallel plates 3, carrying a socket 2 to accommodate the nut securing the nave to the shaft. The roots of the blades are secured by rings 7 which are held together by bolts 4 passing through the plates 3. The rings 7 are combined with steel sockets 9 provided with ball bearings 8, and are of increasing diameter towards the root of the blade. Annular slots 12 are cut in the root of the blade, with radial extensions, to accommodate a wedge member 14, 17, Fig. 2, which is driven into the root to expand it in the socket. A central wedge 15 is also driven into the blade and is secured by a screw 16. The pitch of the blade is varied by means which rotate the socket 9 and bearing 8 within the relatively fixed ring 7.
