Abstract

1,020,896. Axial-flow compressors. ESCHER WYSS A.G. Oct. 29, 1962 [Oct. 27, 1961], No. 40846/62. Heading F1C. In an impeller, for axial-flow compressors, having at least one stage with a ring of blades rotatably adjustable during operation, a blade mounting for absorbing centrifugal forces directed along the axes of rotation of the blades has, for each blade, a tension element which is elastically rotatable about the rotational axis of the associated blade and has its ends respectively connected to the associated blade root and the impeller hub in a non-rotatable manner relatively to the rotational axis of the blade. A compressor rotor, Figs. 1 and 2, has rim portions 6, 7 bolted together at 8 and provided with bores 9 containing bushes 10, 11 and the cylindrical roots 12 of rotor blades 13. Each root 12 is secured by a sleeve 25 to a tension element comprising plates 22 packed as shown or spaced apart singly or in groups. The other end of the tension element is secured to the impeller hub by a pin 26. The radially inner ends of the tension elements may instead merge into a common ring in which case the rim portions 6, 7 may be joined at a plane which passes through the axes of rotation of the blades. The ends of each tension element may be of fir-tree form, Fig. 9, located in fir-tree grooves in the impeller hub and blade root and positioned by pins 64, 65 and reinforcing plates 63. Each blade 13 has secured thereto, by a pin 47, Figs. 1 and 3, a forked lever 32 provided with an opening 33 for passage of an adjacent tension member. Each lever 32 is connected to an axially adjustable control ring 40 by a pin 39. A rod 43, provided with a bolt 44 located in an annular groove 45 in the ring 40, controls the axial position of the ring 40 and thereby the degree of rotation of the blades 13. Longitudinal grooves 46 permit removal of the rod 43 after rotation through 90 degrees. Each tension element may be pre-stressed about the rotational axis of its associated blade to continuously subject the blade to a torque opposing the torque exerted on the blade by centrifugal force.
