Abstract

166,315. Lewis, I. N. Jan. 16, 1919. Machine guns. - An extractor which can be pressed laterally into position on the front end of the breech-bolt 3 is formed by bending the blank of resilient material shown in Fig. 7 so as to form a split circumferential band 1 with two longitudinal limbs 2 carrying cartridge-engaging claws 9. The band and its limbs engage grooves in the breech-bolt to enable the extractor to lie flush with the cylindrical surface of the bolt. The invention is shown in Fig. 2 applied to the breech-bolt of the automatic gun described in Specification 166,579. Specification 14746/12, [Class 119, Small-arms], also is referred to.
