Abstract

128,287. Armes Automatiques Lewis, and Hulse, F. W. July 17, 1917. Machine guns.-Relates to extractors of the kind fitting flush in a slot in the outer cylindrical surface of the brech-block, as for instance in the Lewis machine gun. According to the invention, the extractor proper and its spring are made as two separate parts adapted to be mounted in the breech-block in such a way that each is retained by the other. In the construction shown, the extractor proper comprises a rigid hooked part E having a stud 2 fitting in a recess in the breech- . block, and a tapering tail 6. The spring S is shaped at the rear to fit in an undercut slot in the breech-block, and at the front bears on the top of the extractor proper E.
