Abstract

165,284. Dodgson, A. H., Trotter, G. W., and Dodgson, W. April 30, 1920. Moulds.-In casting iron, gunmetal, brass, &c., a header A having an elongated or rectangular gate C is used. The header A is composed of or is lined with refractory material D and has one or more narrow slots C to feed one or two metal moulds B. If the mould is 5¢ ft. deep and 1 to 1“ sq. ft. in section, the slot may be 8 in. long and # in. wide. The shape of the header and of the slot may be modified to suit an intricate casting. The metal connecting the casting and the metal in the header is easily broken if it does not break during cooling.
