Description

April 15, 1924; l 1,490,879
c. WINKLER MOLD FOR CASTING RIBBED STEREOPLATBS Filed March 21. i923 IN VE/v To B IQTTGENEY Patented Apr. 15, 1924.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CARL WINKLER, F BERNE. SWITZERLAND.
Application filed March 21, 1923. Serial No. 626,595.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL WINKLER, a citizen of the Swiss Republic, residing at Berne, in the Swiss Republic, have invented a new and useful Improved Mold for Casting Ribbed Stereoplates, of which the following is a specification.
In using water for cooling the core of the mold or box used for casting stereoplates having ribs on the back it is sometimes possible to trace the ribs on the front of the plate. This is due to the fact that the ribs on the outside of the core, by which the ribs on the plate are formed, cause the wall to have a varying thickness, so that the plate is not uniformly cooled.
According to my invention this drawback is overcome by providing grooves 011. the inside of the core-wall, between the grooves 011 the outside, so that the wall has the same thickness at all parts. I
On the drawing illustrating the invention by way of example Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 2 a cross section, of a mold for casting stereoplates.
The mold for stereoplates consists of the core a, bed 1), side rings 0 and matrix 03. On the outside of the core are the usual grooves c for forming the plate ribs, and, on the inside ofthe core, there are grooves f, accord- 30 ing to the invention, which are between the grooves e and have such a shape that the Wall of the core has approximately the same thickness throughout. I
A further advantage of the grooves e and 5 f is that the cooling surface is much increased.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
In a mold for casting ribbed stereoplates the provision of grooves on the outside of the Wall of the core, and grooves on the inside of said wall, between-said outside grooves, substantially as, and for the purpose, set 1 forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CARL VVINKLER.
