Abstract

164,039. Hadfield, Sir R. A. Nov. 28, 1919. Alloys.-Steel alloys suitable for permanent magnets and other purposes, are made by alloying with carbon steel, containing about 0.25- 1.5 per cent of carbon, about 5-19 per cent of cobalt. Tungsten (or vanadium or molybdenum), or chromium, nickel, and tungsten (or vanadium or molybdenum) may also be added, and also up to about 1 per cent of manganese. The tungsten may vary up to about 10 per cent and the nickel and chromium up to about 5 per cent each.
