Abstract

163,212. Hughes, J., and Sparrow, C. S. May 21, 1920. Casting pipes and tubes.-A mould for concrete pipe joints comprises (1) a pair of side walls D, E, embracing respectively the ends A, B of a pair of juxtaposed concrete pipes, each wall comprising two or more arcuate portions bolted together as at J, and (2) a flexible member K, encircling the side walls and clampable in tight contact therewith, for example, by means of bolts M. The walls D, E may be of metal, or of wood mounted on iron straps F, G, and the member K of flexible steel band shorter in length than the outer periphery of the walls D, E in order to leave a gap for introducing fluid concrete for forming the joint. A sealing-ring C of bitumen is provided, and the joint may be reinforced by the usual steel ring O and bars P, secured by wedges prior to fitting the mould round the pipes. The mould is designed so that it may be fixed without displacing the reinforcing-members, and be disassembled when the jointing collar has set without fear of damaging the collar.
