Abstract
163,045. Muzzy, W. H. May 10, 1920, [Convention date]. Vacuum apparatus. - In a vacuum fuel-feed apparatus for internal-combustion engines, the atmospheric valve 6 and the suction valve 4 controlling the connection to the induction pipe are operated by independent floats 14, 3, mounted on the valve rods. The floats are solid and made of cork &c., and are arranged at different levels, and the valve 6 is of such a size that it is not opened until the float 3 has closed the valve 4. Leakage of air past the valve 6 then reduces the vacuum and enables the submerged float 14 to open the valve 6 with a snap. The valve 4 is of needle form, so that, when it is partly closed by the float 3, the suction in the pipe 15 completes the movement. An inclined plate 30 may be arranged below the fuel inlet to prevent the fuel falling on the floats. The movements of the valves 4, 6 may be regulated by screws 42, 23.
