Abstract
159,260. Goold, L. W., (National Safety Appliance Co.). Nov. 14, 1919. Drawings to Specification. Electromagnets.-A polarized electromagnet is symmetrically arranged in relation to the poles of a permanent magnet in order to vary the field of the latter. The entire function of the field created by the polarized electromagnetic member excludes the production of any mechanical movement. The electromagnet is preferably stronger than the permanent magnet and may be below or beyond its pole-pieces. The latter arrangement is described for use on a railway track, the circuit to the electromagnet being controlled by passing vehicles. The electromagnet serves to restore the magnetism of the permanent magnet.
