Motor power plant.-The exhaust combustion products of an internal combustion engine are admitted to a turbine and expanded to atmospheric pressure and scavenging air admitted to the engine near the end of the exhaust stroke is led to an intermediate stage of the, turbine. The engine has a comparatively small expansion ratio, about five, and the air is supplied under pressure from a compressor driven by the turbine and preferably cooled before being admitted to the cylin. der. The inlet valve opens near the end of the exhaust stroke to admit compressed air for scavenging and a second exhaust valve opens leading the scavengings to the intermediate stage of the turbine.
