Abstract
158,042. Birch, G. Oct. 21, 1919. Mantle carriers.-In an inverted gas-burner, the upward passage of the heated gases between the burner mouth and the incandescent mantle is obstructed by a tubular baffle member surrounding the burner mouth and extending below the mantle ring. The baffle member is provided with lugs 8, Fig. 2, or flanges 17, Fig. 8, for resting on the top of the mantle ring. and with gaps to allow the passage of lugs on the mantle ring. In one form, the baffle member consists of two tubular parts 1, 2, Fig. 2, of unequal diameter connected by an horizontal part 4, the lower tubular part 2 fitting the burner mouth. The upper tubular part may, however, be slightly conical, and the lower part may be bell-mouthed. In a second form, the baffle consists of a tubular part 19, Fig. 8, with an inwardly curved lower part 18.
