Abstract

155,440. Holden, Sir H. C. L. Nov. 19, 1919. Spray carburettors; vaporizers, external.-In order to control the temperature of the air admitted to carburettors, vaporizers, or the like, the end portion b, Fig. 2, of the air-intake pipe a is arranged adjacent to the exhaust pipe c and is made movable so that its inclination both to the exhaust pipe and to the remainder of the air-intake pipe can be varied. The end portion b may be pivoted or hinged to the pipe a in any manner, for example by a globular end b<1> fitting upon a spherical union a<1>, and may be adjusted by a flexible member e acting against a return spring d or by a positive adjustment in each direction. In a modification, the movable device comprises a perforated sleeve f, Fig. 3, rotatable around the exhaust pipe c and having a laterally projecting branch f<1> capable of being moved into or out of alinement with the fixed end a of the air intake. A thermometer may be fitted in the intake pipe to indicate upon the dash-board the temperature of the air in the pipe.
