Abstract

Hubs.-The means for securing the wheel in its running position on the axle are adapted to provide a temporary extension of the axle, on to which the wheel may be slid to allow access to the lubricant-receptacle. A cotter pin e has an angular slot f working over a fixed or detachable pin g secured across a slot in the end c of the axle. A spring q secured in the slot' f holds the pin g in either end thereof. The lower end of the cotter pin is rounded at n. A collar j with a slotted extension k is adapted to engage a recess in the wheel hub. A ring m is provided for manipulating the cotter. In normal conditions the device is arranged as shown in Fig. 1. To form the temporary extension of the axle, the cotter pin is pulled up and swung into the position shown in Fig. 2.
