Abstract
154,298. McKellen, S. D., and Woodall, H. Aug. 20, 1919. Electric and magnetic speed indicators. - Relates to speedometers of the magnetic type described in Specification 9544/05, and consists in the combination of a drag-element comprising a hollow cylinder 44, Figs. 2 and 4, with a lug 45 extending from one end and connected to a cruciform flange 46 extending across the cylinder but not otherwise connected to it. The flange 46 is of smaller radius than the cylinder and the bracket 37 projects into the cylinder 44 through the gap 47. The bracket 37 carries a jewel mounting 38, 39 for the spindle 40 fitted with a sleeve 41 to carry the pointer 42 and the armature 44. The other end of the spindle 40 is carried by the jewel bearing 35. The cylinder 44 fits rotatably into the gap 25 between the arcuate poles 22 of the magnetic element 21 and the core 24 of soft iron screwed to the rotating spindle 16 by means of the bush 23. Any suitable drive is communicated to the end 17 of the spindle 16, which is fitted with the ball-bearings 14, 15.
