Abstract

1389059 Speedometers SOC INTERNATIONALE DE MECANIQUE INDUSTRIELLE SA 15 June 1972 [17 June 1971] 27927/72 Heading G1K In an eddy-current speedometer, a rotary magnet 18 applies torque to a coaxial non-magnetic disc 22 against a return spring 25 when the magnet is driven by a magnetic field rotated in synchronism with motion-transmitting mechanism A actuating a generator C feeding pulses to stator windings 9- 16 having at least one core 17 terminating in pole pieces 17a, 17b encompassing both the disc 22 and the magnet 18, the magnet having at least one elementary magnet 18d oriented axially, the pole pieces being so disposed that the lines of force there-between are also parallel to the common axis of rotation. On a motor vehicle, the mechanism A may be the gearbox. The magnet 18 rotates on a fixed spindle 19 and its plastics hub 18a is threaded to form a worm gear 18c driving reduction gearing connected to a mileage counter 21. Four individual NS magnets are formed in a ring 18d of hard ferrite rigid with the hub 18a.
