Abstract

Drinking-appliances for animals.-A drinking- trough 1 for animals is constructed with inlet and outlet channels 6, 9 or pipes running longitudinally of the trough at opposite sides, a float 15 and valve mechanism 11 being fitted within the inlet channel to maintain the level of the water, and the sides of the trough being turned inwardly to form shields 24 over the channels. The weir 3 separating the inlet channel is notched so that as the water-level falls in the trough the float 15 descends and opens a relief valve 13, Fig. 2. This allows the disk valve 18 to open under and release the supply pressure above the valve 12, which thereupon rises and opens the main supply passage. The pressure is equalized on both sides of the valve 18 by a passage 20 or perforation in the valve. Instead of a flexible membrane, this valve may be formed as a disk loosely fitting its casing and having a washer secured to its under surface.
