Abstract

1535505 Flame retardancy I W S NOMINEE CO Ltd 31 Oct 1975 [1 Nov 1974 11 Sept 1975] 47436/74 and 37493/75 Heading DIP The flame-retardance of keratinous or cellulose fibre material is increased by applying to the material at least one compound selected from those of titanium, zirconium, tungsten, antimony, tin or zinc dissolved at least partly in the aqueous phase of a water-in-oil type emulsion of water and organic solvent. The metal compound may contain the metal in a complex anion but the treatment of keratin fibres with such substances is disclaimed. The material may be solvent scoured before and after the treatment. Finally the material may be steamed e.g. in a decatizer. In the treatment of cellulosics, the material may be in the form of an upholstery or furnishing fabric and may be treated in situ by spraying with the emulsion. Wool, wool/ cotton and wool/polyester blends may be treated.
