Abstract
152,300. Fuller-Lehigh Co., (Assignees of Kinyon, A. G.). Oct. 8, 1919, [Convention date]. Screw conveyers. - Pulverulent materials such as coal, cement, sand, flour, &c. which are conveyed through a conduit by mechanical pressure, are maintained in condition to be moved by fluid injected into the conduit. The material passes from a hopper 13 into a casing 10 containing a screw conveyer 15 which forces it through the casing and a tapered chamber 31 to the conduit 32. Between the casing 10 and chamber 31 is placed an annular casting 21, Fig. 4, provided with a semicircular passage 22 having a series of ports 30 opening into the central space. The passage 22 is connected by a pipe 24 to a tank 25 in which air or other gas is compressed by a compressor 26 actuated by the motor 19 that drives the conveyer 15. A liquid may be injected instead of a gas. The pitch of the conveyer 15 may decrease as shown, or the pitch may be uniform and the diameter decreased in the direction of flow of the material. In a modification the conveyer is of uniform pitch and diameter, but the casting 21 is of greater length and is provided with a series of parallel passages 22 to any desired one or more of which fluid can be admitted.
