Abstract

1,033,295. Pneumatic conveyers. M. H. GILLESPIE. June 11, 1963 [June 15, 1962], No. 23218/63. Heading B8A. In a rotary vane feeder 12, Fig. 2, for supplying bulk material to a pneumatic conveyer line &c. 69, the rotor 11 has end plates 30 formed with annularly spaced air intake openings 46 and sealed by thrust plates 52 having bottom openings 59 through which air is successively injected into the pockets from air conduits 61 projecting axially through the easing end caps 62. The end plates 30 are attached to the rotor 11 by bolts 32 and have peripheral seals 38, 39 engaging the end faces of the casing 13. The thrust plates 52 are adjustably pressed by a ring of bolts 68 threaded in the end caps 62. The recesses formed by the end caps 62 are filled with oil pressurized through air supply lines 74. The rotor 11 is supported at each end on drive shafts 24, 25 keyed into counterbores 22, 23 and sealed in the end caps 62 as at 82. The feed opening 19 has a bevelled edge 111a, Fig. 1 (not shown), which operates to force the rotor seals 18 downwards as they re-enter for engagement with the housing wall. A scraper 111 operates to level the material fed into each rotor pocket. An opening 115 is provided in the housing wall 13 for releasing trapped air which is diverted through pipeline 87 to a diffuser 86 in the hopper 10 to assist in loosening the material to be fed. An auxiliary chain and sprocket drive (Fig. 3, not shown) for a hopper mixing valve is described and is adapted for supplying quantities of different materials to the feeder.
