Abstract
948,466. Conveying solids in liquids. RUHRGAS A.G. Oct. 14, 1960 [Oct. 15, 1959], No. 35345/60. Heading FIR. Particulate solid material is conveyed in a pipeline in a liquid which is gaseous at the conditions prevailing at the exit end of the pipeline and which is compressed to liquefy it before or after mixing with the material to be conveyed, the gas being maintained in the liquid state by pressure in the pipeline. With a long pipeline pumping stations may be spaced along its length to maintain the pressure. Pressure release means at the exit of the pipe permit the liquid to expand and so return to the gaseous state and the solid material is separated from the gas. The gas may be returned to the entrance of the pipeline in the gaseous state or be recompressed and returned as a liquid; a separate return pipe or the main pipeline may be used. Expansion of the liquid may take place in an expansion chamber or machine; it may take place in the extreme end section of the pipeline, in which case conveying in this section may be partially pneumatic.
