Abstract

1521683 Heat exchanger BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd 3 Nov 1975 [2 Aug 1974 9 Aug 1974] 34270/74 and 35206/74 Heading F4S A heat exchanger comprises passageways 1 (shown end on in Fig. 1). Each passageway comprises two plates 3a, 3b having longitudinal edges connected together as shown at 6, 7. The facing plate surfaces at the interior of each passageway are coated with vitreous enamel to give protection against corrosive gas. For convenience of manufacture, the passageways 1 are built up from units 2, each as shown in Fig. 1 in unbroken lines. Each unit comprises studs 10, in the form of circular rods, joining together and extending through plates 3a and 3b of two adjacent passageways. Each stud 10 is a close fit in openings in the plates and fixture of the studs is assured by the coating of vitreous enamel which is also applied to the stubs 11 of the studs. The edges of plates forming each passageway are connected either by welds 12 or by pins and a sealant. Banks A, B. . . of the passageways are assembled between end walls 20, Fig. 2. Plenum chambers (not shown) are provided respectively above and below upper and lower boundaries 25, 26 to provide for gas flow through the passageways 1.
