Abstract

1514502 Grounding spring BUNKER RAMP CORP 8 July 1975 [12 July 1974] 28753/75 Heading H2E A grounding spring ring 40, made of resilient conductive material for a connector shell (12, Fig. 1, not shown) comprises an annular portion 42 (Figs. 5 and 6) with an axial split 44. At the front end of spring 40 a plurality of cantilever spring fingers 46 are provided which are engaged between the external surface of shell (12) and internal surface of outer shell (18). The rear end of spring 40 has a lip 54 which engages behind shoulder 56 (Fig. la) on the internal surface of the connector shell (12) to prevent axial movement. The axial split 44 receives a key 58, extending axially rearwardly from shoulder 56 for aligning the spring 40 and to prevent rotational movement. The key 58 is also received in a keyway on the dielectric 24. To assemble the spring 40 to the connector shell the front end (22) of shell (12) is inserted between the free ends 52 and fingers 46 and the annular portion 42. The split 44 allows reduction of the circumference of portion 42 to facilitate entry of lip 54 into shell (12). The spring 40 is then moved axially until lip 54 is aligned with key 58, when it expands to engage shoulder 56. The dielectric insert 24 is then inserted so that the spring is retained in its proper position, when the other shell engages the connector shell, spring fingers 46 engage with integral surface of shell 18 and outer surface of shell (12) to ensure grounding between the shells.
