Abstract
950,790. Wrapping terminals. GARDNERDENVER CO. Jan. 10, 1963 [Oct. 31, 1962], No. 1228/63. Heading B3E. A device for wrapping a conductor around a terminal in successive convolutions includes a rotatable wrapping bit having an end face, terminal receiving means and conductor receiving means opening to said end face, first surface means on the end face about the terminal receiving means for camming a conductor convolution radially toward a terminal disposed in said terminal receiving means and axially forwardly into engagement with a next preceding convolution wrapped around the terminal, and second surface means on the end face extending forwardly from the first surface means in contacting relation with said conductor convolution to restrain the latter from radial separation from said terminal due to the forward axial thrust of said first surface means. A bit 28, rotatable with a sleeve 30, has a central end bore 44 to receive a terminal T to be wrapped and a longitudinal groove 50 to receive a stripped portion 48 of a conductor C to be wound on the terminal T upon rotation of the bit 28. One of two radial slots 52 in the sleeve 30 receives a portion of the conductor C preferably bent rearwardly along the sleeve 30. The end face 46 of the bit 28 includes a flat inner surface 54 and a forwardly disposed flat outer surface 56 connected by a U-shaped surface 58 inclined outwardly from the surface 54 to a U-shaped recess wall 60 which extends axially to the outer surface 56. The inclined surface 58 serves to press the conductor convolutions radially on to the terminal T, indenting the convolutions at the corners of the terminal, and axially outwards. The recess wall 60 serves to prevent convolutions from lifting away from the terminal. U.S.A. Specification 3,078,052 is referred to.
