Abstract

Safes and strongrooms.-The proofing- case of a safe or strong-room door is so mounted that it can move laterally on the lock case of the door in order to fill the clearance space between the door frame and the edge of the door when the latter is closed. As shown in Fig. 2, the proofing - case c is adapted to slide on the lock case b, the channelled edge of the proofing-case resting on balls o carried by cages m secured to the bottom of the lock case. The proofing-case is pressed against the right jamb h of the door frame by a spring r acting between the ball cage m and an abutment q in the proofing-case channel, to keep it in position for closing the door after the latter has been opened. In a modification shown in Fig. 6, the spring is dispensed with, the proofing case c being provided with an inclined projection u which strikes the edge of the frame and moves the proofing-case over to the right as the door is being closed. In a further modification, shown in Fig. 8, the proofing-case c is moved in opposite directions during the opening and closing of the door by a stud w actuated by the bolt mechanism.
