Abstract

150,822. Arnott, P. R. June 10, 1919. Current motors; regulating, - In water-wheels mounted in floating pontoons the framing connecting the pontoons is provided with adjustable vertical deflectors to form a flared inlet opening together with an adjustable horizontal defljector pivoted on the forward end of the framing for regulating the flow. The bladed water-wheel a is mounted on an axle b, carried by bearings c supported on floating pontoons e, which are connected by framing g at their bases. deflectors l, l, q on the forward ends of the pontoons provide a flared inlet opening to the box-shaped structure formed by the pontoons and the base-plate h. The deflector q is hinged to the lower framework and is actuated by the cable r passing over the pulleys s. The manually adjustable deflectors l, are pivoted to vertical shafts o. The wheel blades are shaped so that their centres impinge on the water before their outer ends, by giving them an outward slope towards the centre. They are carried by arms u, u<1>, u<2> arranged in differing radial positions about the hub of the wheel. Triangular blocks ware fitted to the flooring apex foremost, and are grooved out to give clearance to the blades, and to reduce the amount of water flowing between the edges of the blades and the floor.
