Abstract

1500580 Telescopic booms WALTER KIDDE & CO Inc 24 June 1975 [26 July 1974] 26830/75 Heading B8H A four-section telescopic boom comprises a manual fly-section 22, an outer mid-section 21, an inner-mid-section 20 and a base section 23. A ram 24 has its rod attached at 26 to the base section 23 while its cylinder is attached at 25 to the inner mid-section 20 and supports a latch mechanism 63 with a spring-loaded plunger 69 arranged to co-operate with a latch plate 97 mounted on the fly-section 22. The plunger 69 can be manually extended and retracted by a wrench 95 passed through openings 96 in the boom sections as illustrated in Fig. 10. A manual locking pin 100 is used at 101 to couple the flysection 22 and the outer mid-section 21 so that extension of a ram 27, whose rod is connected to the outer mid-section 21 at 29 and whose cylinder is connected to the inner mid-section 20 at 28, jointly extends the fly section 22 and the outer mid-section 21, the plunger 69 engaging the plate 97 as shown in Fig. 11. The pin 100 can now be removed from the position 101 so that retraction of the ram 27 returns the outer mid-section 21 to its collapsed position, the latch mechanism 63 holding the fly-section 22 in its extended position, Fig. 12 (not shown). The pin 100 can now be inserted at 102 to lock the fly section 22 to the outer mid-section 21. The plunger 69 is now retracted by use of the wrench 95 whereupon extention of the ram 27 extends the outer mid-section 21, (with the fly section 22 in its extended position), with respect to the inner mid-section 20, Figs. 13 to 15 (not shown).
