Abstract
149,723. Allan, H. B. Nov. 21, 1919. Expanding-pulley gearing of the type comprising expansible pulleys having tread-carrying segments 39, Figs. 2 and 3, supported in a drum 17 and thrust out radially by an axially-movable cone 5, Collars 22, Fig. 6, slidable on the pulley shafts 1, 2 normally hold the drums 17 in position, springs 28 being used. The collars 22 are adapted to be operated by levers 23 and rods 24, 25 so as to allow the drums 17 to move away from the cones 5 and so slacken the belt 18 and disconnect the drive. A jockey pulley 31 is simultaneously moved away from the belt. The cones 5 are operated in unison by a lever 11 and worm gear. The segments 39, Fig. 3, are kept from flying out by springs 37 between them. The invention is applicable upon light motor-vehicles.
