Abstract

308,149. Jorgensen, E. Sept. 4, 1928. Expanding pulleys comprise treads consisting of a number of overlapping resilient bands 1 adjustable by radially-movable spokes 5, which are trapeze-shaped and are supported on cone members 9 slidably splined on a shaft 8. Each band 1 extends nearly fully round the pulley and is bent inwards at one end 2 to engage a groove in a spoke 5. The other end 3 of each band 1 is tapered off. The spokes 5 have dove-tailed taps 7 engaging grooves 10 in the cones 9. The cones 9 are thrust inwards in unison by thrustblocks 13 with lubricated ball bearings at 18. Means are described for operating, driving and driven pulleys simultaneously comprising twin pivoted levers connected by links to a control pin sliding in a slot.
