Abstract

1495965 Dispensing closure with pivoted cover EDWARD JOHNSON TOWNS & ASSOCIATES 5 Dec 1974 [6 Dec 1973] 52624/74 Heading B8T A dispensing closure comprises a skirt 11, Fig. 2, whose upper end has an apertured, stepped recessed panel 14, 15 surrounded by an annular rim 13 to which a top cover wall 21 is hinged. The top cover wall has lugs 25 which engage apertures 17 in the upper step 15 of the panel and a tab 31 which snaps into a recess 33 in the annular rim 13. The rim 13 has a recess 41, Fig. 1 to accommodate the cap's hinge 43 upon closure. To open the closure the cap is depressed immediately above the lower step 14 of the panel whereupon, with a rib 37 on the upper step 15 acting as a fulcrum, the cap bends about a hinge 27 such that the tab 31 and lugs 25 disengage from the recess 33 and apertures 17. The top cover wall is retained in the open position by engagement of diametrical ribs 29, 39. In a modification the upper step 15 is divided into two quadrants, one having small apertures, the other having a single large quadrant shaped hole. Both types of hole are engaged by corresponding lugs on the cap unless the quadrant shaped hole is as large as its containing quadrant in which case the corresponding lug can be omitted. The skirt 11 may be snap fitted or screwed to a vessel.
