Abstract

1492612 Refractory materials STEETLEY MINERALS Ltd 20 Jan 1975 [29 Jan 1974] 04051/74 Heading C1J A refractory material consists of a mag-chrome refractory clinker or a mag-chrome refractory clinker/chrome ore mixture, the clinker being made by sintering without fusing, at greater than 1600‹ C., a mixture containing chrome ore or a blend of chrome ores and caustic magnesia, the chrome ore or blend comprising at least 67 wt. per cent chrome flour and at most 33% coarse chrome concentrates, the refractory material containing (by wt.) the mole ratio CaO:SiO 2 being 0À25:1 to 0À75:1. Preferably a separate chrome ore addition is up to 20%. Suitable magnesia and chrome ore compositions are given as are examples of suitable refractory materials which may be bonded by heat (1550‹ to 1750‹ C.) and pressure and optional calcining to form bricks. Physical properties of such bricks are tabulated.
