Abstract

1491897 Couplings for lamps PERKINELMER CORP 17 Dec 1974 [17 Dec 1973] 54500/74 Heading H2E [Also in Division H1] A lamp 10 is provided with a rigid mounting vane 28 of hexagonal cross-section which can be clamped into a V-shaped mounting fixture 36 in an accurately reproducible position. The lamp envelope 12 contains electrodes 20 and 22 and terminates in stubs 16 and 18. Stub 16 is mechanically secured to a flexible lead 24 carrying a plug 26. Stub 18 is inserted in a bore 30 in the base 28 in a position determined accurately, e.g. in a jig, and is then secured in position by solder 34. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the stub 18 is secured in the base 28 by a number of set screws. The base 28 is made of copper, brass or other electrically-conductive material and is connected to electrode 22. The base 28 is shaped either as a regular hexagonal prism or as a cylinder with a hexagonal flange at each end. Fixture 36 has a pair of locating faces 38 and 40 against which faces of the hexagonal portion or portions of the base 28 are urged by a clamp assembly 46 including a clamping plate 52, screw 56 and coil spring 60.
