Abstract

148,638. White, A. E., (Clefton Co.). April 29, 1919. Solid supply to liquid; removing sludge from generators.-A carbide-to-water generator in which the main carbide hopper 5 is enclosed by the gas-bell 6, is provided with an auxiliary carbide hopper 35 fitted in an opening in the bell and within telescoping sleeves 21, 22 carried by the main carbide hopper and gas-bell respectively. The hopper is secured to a depending sleeve 23, removable with it, by a yoke 31, and carbide is delivered from the hopper by a handoperated valve 27. The generator is provided with the usual cover 17, and with agitating- devices 11, 13 actuated from the exterior and for stirring the sludge which is removed by a pump connected to the upper part of the pipe 12.
