Abstract

Regulating head of liquid directly; liquid supply controlled by variations of gas pressure.-Relates to acetylene-generators of the kind in which a generator bell is connected either directly or through a second bell with the delivery pipe, a carbide container closed below being placed in the generator bell, the generation of gas depending upon whether the level of the water surrounding the container reaches one or more small openings in the latter placed at a suitable height. According to the invention, the water is admitted through several capillary openings g provided at the same height and at substantially equal distances apart in the wall of the carbide container f and means are provided to prevent the water from flowing over the upper edge of the container. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the means consists of a cover m arranged over the container. In modifications, the upper edge of the container, or the upper edge of a tube leading from the container and opening into the delivery pipe, is arranged so as to be above the level of the water in the bell. In a further construction, the gas passes from the bell b, Fig. 4, to a second bell n provided with a delivery pipe c, the arrangement being such that the gas or air present maintains the level of the water below the point q. The carbide may be contained in a basket o provided with a ring p of unperforated material to protect the capillary openings from dust and sludge.
