Abstract

Liquid raised up to solid; purifying.-The cover 3 of an apparatus for generating acetylene under pressure, in addition to sealing the generating chamber, serves also to carry a. tube 7 open at the bottom end extendirg nearly to the base of the chamber, so forming a counter-pressure chamber. The cover also carries a purifying and condensation chamber 14 and the basket 10 for the carbide, the basket 10 being supported on a rod 11 slidable in the cover. The tube 7 is riveted to the cover while its lower open end is cut away at the point 9 so as to provide a passage for the entry of water. Gas leaves the generating chamber through the purifying and cooling chamber 14. The cover also carries the outlet valve and connection, a pressure gauge, and a safety valve. A yoke 4 and central screw 5 serve to secure the cover, and the yoke 4 is provided with a handle 6 for carrying the generator. The normal height of the water is adjusted by means of a plug 20, together with an internal water-level mark.
