Regulating head of liquid directly.-The generating-chamber 12 containing the carbide is adjustably supported in the cover 4 of the watercontainer 1, and water enters the chamber through a pipe 30 entering the top of the former and extending down its side to a point near its lower end; the generating chamber comprises an inner carbide container 20 and an outer bellshaped cover 18 which are secured together by means of a nut 26 screwed to the lower and solid end of the gas-outlet pipe 11. The gas-outlet pipe passes through a socket 10 in the cover 4 of the water container and is held in position by a thumbscrew 14; the extent of the adjustment is determined by a pin 17 on the pipe and a slot 16 in the socket. The cover 4 is slit to pass over up-standing lugs on the water container and is then secured in position by wire hooks passed through holes in the lugs. Beads 3, 29 indicate the correct levels of water and carbide respectively.
