Abstract

367,492. Solidifying carbon dioxide. WEBER, G., Pergine Valdarno, Arezzo, Italy. Dec. 13, 1930, No. 37647. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1929. [Class 8 (ii).] In apparatus for the production of solid carbon dioxide, liquid carbon dioxide passes through pipe x, coil w to an opening z leading to a cylinder a, which is tapered to allow the finished block to be easily removed. A pin 2 operates in conjunction with the opening z to control the inlet area and remove any obstruction. A block g operating in the cylinder a is attached to a spindle d screwed in a neck c. The gas evolved in the cylinder escapes by way of slots 6 in the block to filters 3, passing through the annular space formed by the vessel o and around the coils w to the outlet 7. This flow aids to cool the chamber a and the coils w. The block g is used to gauge the amount of snow formed and also to compress to a block which is removed through the cover p. A thin disc 4 acts as a safety valve.
