Abstract
1483874 Spray-producers COALTEK ASSOCIATES 26 June 1975 [1 July 1974] 27164/75 Heading B2F A gas jet plug assembly for introducing gas into_a pipe for conveying granular particles, for example, for introducing steam during the conversion of coal to coke, comprises a sleeve 6 mounted around a hole in the pipe wall 14, a gas jet plug 4 extending through the sleeve and having a longitudinally extending bore 18 and a gas jet nozzle .72 extending from the downstream end of the bore to the end surface of the plug, and a cap 8 which engages with both the plug and the sleeve to hold them together in a predetermined position relative to the interior surface of the pipe. The cap has a shoulder 86 which abuts against an exterior flange 90 on the plug, thereby holding the plug in the sleeve. An interior shoulder 42 in the sleeve abuts against an exterior shoulder 40 on the plug, the positions of the shoulders being such that the end surface 12 of the plug is in precise linear alignment with the adjacent interior surface 36 of the pipe. Rotation of the plug is prevented by the engagement of a pin 70 projecting from the outer surface of the plug in a slot 60 in the sleeve, the position of the pin being such that the gas jet nozzle 72 points in the direction of movement A of granular particles in the pipe. Figure 5 shows a plug having three gas jet nozzles 72a, b and c with orifices 104 on the surface of the end of the plug; Figures 6 and 7 (not shown) show similar arrangements of two and four gas jet nozzles respectively. Each of the gas jet nozzles 72 has a Venturi shape and the orifices 104 are elongated to produce fan-like jets of steam.
