Abstract

Mechanical telegraphs for use in mines.-A vertically slidable dial is moved in stages at each signal impulse and is held in position by a detent, and controlled by a dash-pot device, and by a " cut-out " device acting when the winding-engine is operated. At each operation of the bellpull 8, a pawl 5 on the rod 6 engages with one of the pins 4 on an indicator dial 1 and brings an indication on the dial opposite an aperture. The dial is retained by a detent 4a on the rod 18. The bell-pull also moves a rod 10 which has a pawl 11 engaging a stud 12 on the lever 13, which is controlled by a dash-pot 9. When the dash-pot piston has descended, a striker 16 trips the rod 18 against a spring 17 and releases detent 4a. When the winding-engine is operated, a striker 18a moves the rod 6 against a spring 21 and allows the dial to fall.
