Abstract
154,772. Sanderson, J. D. Oct. 27, 1919. Mine and colliery signals.- A visual signalling apparatus for use in mines consists of a dial-board 1, Fig. 1, an apertured plate 3, and a series of slides 2, bearing numerical indications. The slides 2 are raised successively by triggers 11, pivoted on pins 12, which are turned by a pawl 13 on a horizontally-sliding rod 14, moved by a pawl 20 on a slide 21 connected to the usual bell-wire. The slide 21 is returned to initial position after each impulse by a spring 22a. The slides 2 are held by detents 7, Fig. 3, on a spider-frame 5 engaging with bosses 8 on the slides, but the slide bearing the numeral 3 is held by a separate detent. The bar 14 is retained between impulses of the same signal by a detent 23, urged into operative position by a spring 24, and into inoperative position by a spring 25, connected to a bracket 26 and to the detent 23 by a rod 27, lever 28 and wire 29. The movement of detent 23 into inoperative position is delayed by a time-absorbing mechanism 30. The bar 14 is returned to zero by a string 17 and weight 16. The slide last in position, with the exception of No. 3, is caused to drop by the succeeding actuation of the slide 21 rocking the spider frame 5 by means of a lever 32 secured thereto and which is connected by a wire to the bell-crank lever 33 pivoted to the dial board 1 and engageable with a stud on the slide 21. The slides, including No. 3, are also caused to drop by the depth indicator, which is connected to the lever 3, 2, and to the detent holding No. 3 plate by a wire.
