Mine and colliery signals. - In step-by-step signalling-apparatus for collieries, &c., the number of signal impulses is indicated by a pointer moving over numerals on a face-dial, and words indicating the corresponding order are carried by a moving dial and exhibited through an aperture in the face-dial. The pointer is returned to zero on the first impulse of a succeeding signal, or on the order being complied with, and the wordindication is cancelled only on compliance. A pointer (not shown) carried on a spindle B is stepped round by the usual signal impulses operating a reciprocating member w with a pawl w<1> engaging pins e on a wheel B<1> carried by the spindle. The wheel B<1> is retained by a pawl F<1> adapted to engage with peripheral teeth F, but normally held out of engagement by a cross-head on the piston p<2> of a dash-pot or like device. The piston is raised by a pin e engaging a pawl p when signal impulses are given. The wheel B<1> is also held by a pivoted arm D engaging the pins e as shown, but raised on each impulse by a connexion with the member w. The words are carried on a dial g loosely mounted on the spindle, and carried round by means of a pin on the spindle engaging a projection (not shown) on the dial. The dial g is retained by a pawl K engaging pins m provided on the dial, and its movement is limited by a stop K<1> carried by the arm D. When a signal is being complied with, the members D, K are raised, cancelling both the number and word signal, by a cross-bar R<4> on a sliding rod R<2> raised by suitable means such as a lever operated by a. cam on the spindle of the usual depth-indicator.
