Abstract

113,151. Dudgeon, A. E. T. Feb. 15, 1917. Mine and colliery signals.-A signalling-device particularly for mines has two pointers moving over the same dial, one operated by the banksman and the other by the onsetter. Operation of either pointer cancels the previous indication of the other. Both may be returned to zero when a signal has been complied with. Each pointer moves two steps for each signal indication so that " hanging " is visibly indicated by a pointer making half a signal movement. The pointers (not shown) are operated by corresponding wheels b, d having teeth or pins m, n, engaged by pivoted counterweighted members 3, 4, carried by sliding members w reciprocated by the oscillations of corresponding levers p to which the signal impulses are imparted. During the upward movement of a member w, the corresponding wheel is moved half a signalling step by the member 3, and the signalling step is completed by the member 4 during the return movement. Each member w carries a. projection 7 engaging under an arm 8 secured to a shaft 9 which is thus oscillated at each signallng impulse. When a signal is being registered by one pointer, each impulse causes an arm 8 to raise the weighted ends 5, 6 of the members 3, 4 co-operating with the wheel of the other pointer, so that these members 3, 4 are disengaged from the wheel. Thus a previous signal registered by the other pointer is cancelled, the wheels w, when released, being returned to the zero position by weights carried by chains g, h. Both pointers may be returned to zero by a handoperated member 17 carried by the shaft 9.
